Social and Emotional Skills

  • Social skills are the skills that we use every day to interact and communicate with others. Emotional skills refers to the actions, reactions, and ability to respond in everyday situations and environments. Many children who have difficulty with social and emotional skills have behaviors that interferes with their daily lives.
  • Some common examples of children who have difficulty with social and emotional skills include:
    • Easily frustrated
    • Throw tantrums that last a long time or is inappropriate for the situation
    • Is difficult to discipline
    • Has few/no friends
    • Prefer to play alone
    • Fight, bite, or hit other
    • Make very little eye-contact
